LG CX2 3D phone revealed, the Optimus 3D’s successor?

Are 3D phones a novelty? Well we’re not sure if devices like the HTC EVO 3D or the LG Optimus 3D can be sustained for long periods of time, but either way LG has decided that there is a market for such devices and apparently is currently set to release a successor to the LG Optimus 3D with a new device codenamed “CX2”.

Based on the rumored specs, the CX2 does not appear to differ too greatly from the Optimus 3D. It will see a bump in processor from a dual-core 1GHz to a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. It will also reportedly see an improvement in the auto-stereoscopic display, a 4.3” WVGA NOVA display, 8GB of internal storage and will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Apart from that, its cameras are expected to remain the same at 5MP but reportedly the entire device will be slimmed down from 12mm to a sub-10mm.

If this device does exist, it would not be a stretch to imagine that LG will be debuting it at MWC 2012. However with upcoming blazing fast Android smartphones with quad-core processors expected to steal the show, will the LG CX2 glasses-free 3D smartphone stand out in the crowd with its modest specifications? We guess we will have to wait and see.
