Sprint reportedly disables Carrier IQ on their phones

Carrier IQ has been getting a lot of flack over what their software purportedly does. Whether you feel that’s an invasion of your privacy or not is up to you, but to make things simpler, it has been reported that Sprint has disabled their servers that are responsible for the collection of Carrier IQ data. There have also been unconfirmed reports that Sprint is in talks with handset manufacturers to have the software removed from devices bound to Sprint’s network.

So is this a good or bad thing? Well that’s highly subjective. Some have argued that Carrier IQ’s collection of data is for network diagnostics, while others have argued that the collection of data could be intercepted by hackers and used for malicious purposes especially since there have been reports of key logging from the software. Either way for those who might have been feeling a little uncomfortable over this matter will be able to breathe a sigh of relief for now.
