Sony Ericsson trademark reveals “Xperia Ion” name

So we know that Sony Ericsson may have a couple of phones lined up for a 2012 release before the Sony buyout of Ericsson in their joint venture is complete, which is also when Sony plans to start selling Sony-branded smartphones and tablets. Before the Christmas weekend, we reported on a series of photos that reportedly were taken by a Sony Ericsson smartphone with the model number LT28at, and thanks to a recent trademark filing, there is a good chance that the device will ultimately be known as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ion.

Of course this is pretty much speculation for now, but we do know that based on previous leaks that Sony Ericsson has a couple of new devices in the works, and with the surfacing of photos whose EXIF data pointed towards a new Xperia “super phone”, and a recent trademark filing, it’s really not that much of a stretch, but either way take this with a grain of salt for now until we actually hear something a little more concrete.
