RIM’s next-generation platform to be called Blackberry 10

When RIM first rolled out the Blackberry PlayBook tablet, it was discovered it was running on a new platform called QNX. RIM later bought it over and decided to rename it to something a little more familiar – BBX. Unfortunately that name was taken by a computer company called BASIS who claimed to have been using the BBX name all this while.

As it turns out BASIS could have won that trademark infringement lawsuit as you can see from the tweet above, where it was announced that instead of BBX, RIM’s next-generation platform for Blackberry smartphones will instead be known as Blackberry 10. What do you guys think? Does it still have the “zing” that came with BBX or do you think Blackberry 10 is more subdued and a bit more “professional”?

Regardless of the name, we have to admit that we are definitely looking forward to seeing what RIM has in store for us next year with their BBX Blackberry 10 smartphones and tablets.
