HP to build new webOS tablets in 2013

As we had reported earlier, HP had decided not to kill off webOS but instead turn it into an open source platform much like Android, probably in hopes that manufacturers will pick it up and start making more webOS-based devices. Instead of leaving it entirely in the hands on other manufacturers, HP has also announced that they will return to the webOS tablet scene, an odd move given how HP has announced their plans for a Windows 8 tablet.

According to HP’s new CEO, Meg Whitman, it seems like HP has a webOS tablet planned but it will not be debuting until 2013. Perhaps HP is waiting on other manufacturers to churn out webOS tablets first before jumping in with both feet, or they could have learnt from their mistake with the HP TouchPad, either way we’re sure that webOS fans will definitely be pleased at another webOS-based device.
