Researchers develop new lithium-ion battery that will last 10x longer

Researchers at Northwestern University are claiming that they have managed to develop a new lithium-ion electrode that they are claiming will last 10 times as long compared to current lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are not only claimed to be 10 times longer lasting, but even after 150 charges, is said to be as much as 5 times more effective than the current lithium-ion batteries.

This is a pretty big deal for smartphone and tablet users, especially with our displays getting larger and more vivid, with 4G LTE connectivity draining a fair amount of battery, faster processors and more complex apps, a longer lasting battery is indeed welcome news. No word on when these researchers plan to commercialize their findings, but at least we know that the technology is out there and hopefully OEMs will jump on it asap!
