Panasonic announces rugged Toughpad Android tablets

For the consumer looking for a rugged Android tablet, Panasonic has announced their new line of Toughpad tablets, making these their first foray into the Android tablet market. Unfortunately due to their specifications and rugged build, it appears as though these tablets weren’t designed for the typical consumer, but rather those who require a more rugged tablet, such as enterprise users or the military.

The two new tablets are the A1 and the B1, with the former sporting a 10.1” display with a 1.2GHz dual-core Marvell processor under the hood with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5MP/2MP rear/front-facing camera with Android’s Honeycomb 3.2 on board. The A1 will cost a whopping $1,300 which definitely suggests that this isn’t for the typical consumer.

The B1 will be a smaller tablet, sporting a 7” display but unfortunately specs and pricing remain unknown at this point. The A1 is expected to be released in Spring and the B1 will be released shortly after. You can check out a video of the Toughpad being put through the ringer here, which we have to admit is highly entertaining.
