Is Apple testing Siri out on older devices?

Rumor has it that Apple is currently testing out Siri on other devices, such as the iPhone 4. This seems to go against Apple’s marketing plan for the iPhone 4S, considering that Siri along with a dual-core processor and new camera is what sets the iPhone 4S apart from its predecessor, the iPhone 4.

Many developers have been trying to port Siri over onto the iPhone 4 and other iOS devices, such as the iPad and iPod touch, but if this rumor is true, it looks like all their efforts could have been in vain with a mere software update. The rumors are saying that Apple has already handed out a special software that incorporates Siri onto older devices, and considering that Siri is already good to go, and it’s just a matter of compatibility with older devices, perhaps we could be seeing this update pretty soon.
