Carrier IQ sues developer TrevE for exposing their software
Now it seems that Carrier IQ is not happy with TrevE outing their software and detailing its process and has sent him a cease and desist letter, threatening him with a lawsuit if he does not retract his article along with a press release of the retraction. While we can’t say that we’re too familiar with the legal technicalities in cases like these, our basic understanding is that as long as it was used for educational purposes, it does not count as a violation of copyrighted materials.
For a company that appears to be collecting your data without your knowledge, they sure are going about this in the wrong way, even giving off the effect that perhaps they are trying to cover all of this up with a lawsuit.
