US Military might make the switch to Android

Back in the day, it was without doubt that Blackberry phones were one of the more secure devices around. It was favored by both the government and enterprise users due to encrypted emails as well as Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES), which allowed IT admins within the company to better control the sort of data that was sent back/forth among their Blackberry devices.

Now it looks like things are starting to shift and it could be some time in the near future where the US Military could be making the switch over to Android instead. This is due to Google, George Mason along with NSA who are producing a hardened kernel of Android 3.0, along with a secure wireless network for first responders. Apparently this new kernel “can be secured at a higher clearance level than Blackberry devices.” We wonder how RIM is starting to feel about this.
