So your iPhone 4S is able to do a whole lot of things, backed by the classic “there’s an app for that” slogan, but don’t just rule out the Nokia N900 yet just because it is an older smartphone, not to mention having the spotlight moved to Nokia’s Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones today. It seems that the Nokia N900 still has some legs left underneath the hood, where it is touted to be the first mobile brain scanner in the world. Yes, that is right – a brain scanner in the smartphone itself is capable of reading and producing real-time data which can be used to interpret one’s feelings and reactions, and in a cause for optimism, it will take a few more months before one can scan one’s brains and interpret the captured data by downloading an app and picking up the phone itself for as cheap as $300.
The scanner was the result of the hard work of a team over at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where it will function by connecting a commercially available wireless 14-channel EEG headset to a Nokia N900 smartphone. The headset will do the job of transmitting the EEG data to the handset, where all the data will be decrypted after that, where it will be passed on to a reconstruction module which outputs a color visualization. Sounds great, right?
