Running water and a constant source of electricity is a luxury that most of us probably take for granted, but there are countries and rural parts of the world where electricity isn’t as readily available. Researchers from Rice University, Houston, Texas, along with researchers from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University are working on a tablet for school children in India that will be powered by solar energy.
Lessons for mathematics, science and social studies will be preloaded on the tablets, with some lessons requiring the use of a stylus in order to complete them. Production is expected to start some time in mid-2012.
