Google defends Android and HTC against Apple

While the Apple vs Samsung is probably one of the more well known patent lawsuits, not too long ago HTC and Apple were (and still are) embroiled in a legal battle as well. Google then tossed HTC a couple of patents in order to give the handset manufacturer a little more leverage, and now it looks like they have come forward and openly support the Android platform and HTC.

They are claiming that Apple is attempting to prevent the Android platform from gaining ground, and making iOS the sole and only viable mobile platform, pointing out cases such as Apple vs Samsung and Apple vs Motorola, both of which involve the Android platform.

“Apple is the largest seller of mobile computing devices in the U.S.,” Mountain View, California-based Google said in the filing. “Allowing this supplier to eliminate the competition from a fast-moving maverick competitor (HTC) could drive up prices, diminish service, decrease consumers’ access to the technology and reduce innovation.”

The ruling is expected to be given on the 6th of December, where a six-member commission will decide if Apple has a case here, and if it warrants a ban of certain HTC products in the US.
