Apple slips to fifth place as global handset manufacturer

It seems that Apple’s delay in pushing out an iPhone in the middle of the year may have come them more than just some of their users, who may have decided to jump ship because they didn’t want to wait. It turns out that the delay cost Apple’s spot in terms of handset shipments, dropping them to fifth place, allowing ZTE to slip past, claiming fourth place with Samsung and LG in second and third respectively, with Nokia still reigning at the top, probably thanks to their feature phones which are extremely popular in emerging markets.

Naturally the delay cost them some shipments, but Tim Cook and other Apple executives are saying that this is just a temporary setback, and that Q4 will be an all new record for Apple. With the iPhone 4S shattering iPhone 4 sales records, we can’t help but to agree.
