Apple only willing to license out lower level patents

It appears that unlike Microsoft, who is content with seeking licensing deals with Android handset makers and receiving royalties from HTC and Samsung to name a few, Apple’s business model is slightly different, instead seeking exclusive rights and the protection of their technology.

This has been revealed in the recent court case against Samsung in Australia last week, where it was shown that Apple was content with licensing some of their lower-level patents to their rivals, while keeping the higher-level ones for themselves. Could this be why Apple has been so gung-ho in their attempts at going after Samsung instead of just settling for a licensing deal?
