Windows Phone accessories could be swappable

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently published a new patent for Microsoft that point towards a very interesting future for those who have plenty of faith in the Windows Phone 7 (Mango) platform – and if Mango is all it is cracked up to be, who know? Things might just take off in a big way should the case for easily swappable accessories for phones be a reality sometime down the road.

First filed in March 2010 by Microsoft, the patent filing was called “Mobile Communication Device Having Multiple, Interchangeable Second Devices”, and to put it in layman’s language, the patent concerns a system for you to accessorize it in a jiffy, where among the accessories include keyboards, gamepads and who knows – perhaps a secondary display to make it easier to edit movies on the go?

Apart from that, the patent might possibly cover independent devices which communicate using different various wireless protocols to interact with one other. Just how far do you think Microsoft will bring this patent into the mobile game?
