Verizon to start enforcing data throttling

Some of us just use our smartphones to go online to do some light surfing, check our emails, send out tweets, update our Facebook status and do some chatting. There are probably other users out there who use their data for more intensive purposes, downloading games and songs for instance, or even tethering their smartphones to their laptops. Naturally this would cause high data consumption and Verizon has finally started to enforce their plan to throttle the speeds of the top 5% of their users on their network.

This top 5% is defined by the amount of data used per billing cycle, or to be more specific, anyone who uses 2GB or more per billing cycle will be considered a heavy user. The good news is that the throttling will only occur when the network is congested, and could last two billing cycles. For those heavy users out there who find their speeds suddenly slowed down, don’t say Verizon did not warn you! For more information on this “network optimization”, head on down to Verizon’s website.
