Most, if not all of the high end handsets usually feature dual-core processors, and NVIDIA has unveiled their quad-core processors with the Tegra 3 “Kal-El”. While NVIDIA has said that there will be no quad-core smartphones this year, it looks like tablets will be the first to enjoy the quad-core processors, but it is without doubt that eventually (next year?) quad-core CPUs will find their way into our smartphones

Not wanting to be left out of the loop, Qualcomm has recently unveiled plans for their own quad-core CPU, or to be more specific, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor that is said to be coupled with Adreno graphics and will be able to support 3D, full 1080p and LTE at the very least.

The company has plans to start manufacturing these chips and we should be seeing them make its way into handsets in 2012.
