The name Lodsys should be one familiar among iOS and Android developers. They are a company who has reportedly been going after iOS and Android developers, claiming that they have infringed upon its patents. As far as iOS is concerned, there’s a clause in Apple’s T&C that supposedly granted their developers the right to use the patent as they had licensed. However it has not stopped Lodsys from going after developers, and now it looks like Blackberry developers are not safe.
According to a report, Lodsys is now going after Blackberry app developers as well. It seems more than likely that RIM will step in on behalf of their developers, especially given the declining popularity of Blackberry as an OS, the last thing they want is for their developers to jump ship to Android or iOS.
