While other manufacturers have typically favored LCDs, Motorola has leaned towards Pentile displays on their devices so far. We can’t be sure why Motorola favors Pentile displays while other manufacturers go a different route – could be due to costs or companies like Samsung/LG unwilling to license out their display technology to Motorola, we won’t know, but the good news is that with the upcoming Motorola Atrix 2, it appears that Motorola will be moving away from Pentile and to your typical LCD.
If you’re wondering what the difference is, take a look at the photo above where the pixels on the Droid Bionic’s display appears to be more separated and obvious, while the Atrix 2 (or Edison) appears to be more neatly packed and smoother. If there was a reason to get the Atrix 2, perhaps this might be one.
