KT unveils “SpiderPad” smartphone

A while back ASUS announced their Padfone, which essentially was a tablet with a detachable smartphone, which I guess means that you will be able to connect your phone to the tablet and enjoy mobile internet on your tablet without the need for a separate SIM card.

KT (Korean Telecom) at IFA unveiled their “SpiderPad” which by all accounts seems to be the same concept. It appears that you will be able to slide your smartphone not just into a tablet, but a laptop and a device with directional pads and buttons, essentially turning your smartphone into a portal gaming console.

The phone will be sporting a 4.5” 1280×800 display and will be running on a 1.5GHz dual-core process with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It will also feature Android’s Gingerbread 2.3 and is said to be released in Korea this November/December. No word on how much it will cost or if it will be making its way outside of the Korean market.
