Ice Cream Sandwich loaded onto a Nexus S device bought off eBay?

Google’s next iteration of their Android operating system is Ice Cream Sandwich, which has been slated for a release in October/November according to the company. However it appears that one lucky fellow managed to get his hands on a device running the platform, or so it seems.

According to the reports, he made a bid on eBay for a regular Samsung Nexus S. Upon receiving his device, he realized it was looking a little different and decided to investigate. Upon entering the “About” screen, he discovered that his Nexus S was running on Ice Cream Sandwich with an updated build (IRK48) and kernel (3.0.1).

If you’ve ever used Honeycomb before, you’ll realize that in the screen shot above, you can see traces of Gingerbread and Honeycomb, which was the idea behind Ice Cream Sandwich – a platform that would be useable on both smartphones and tablets.

Naturally given the quality of ROMs put out there by Android developers, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine that perhaps this user got his hands on a really elaborate Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, or perhaps what you are looking at in the photo above really could be the Android 4.0 update that many are waiting for.
