Apple patent reveals plans for a new antenna window design

When the iPhone 4 launched, despite its rather attractive design, there was the issue of the death grip, which basically cut phone signals drastically when the phone was held. This was partially due to the fact that the iPhone 4’s antenna was baked into the frame of the iPhone 4, as opposed to the 3GS and 3G where it was placed in the back of the device.

The CDMA version of the iPhone 4 seems to have solved the issue, but nonetheless the issue has plagued Apple ever since. Now a patent has revealed that Apple has plans to create a new antenna window. The patent actually describes a new composite material, but other uses revealed point at the possibility of a new antenna window in future mobile devices.

The pictured above basically illustrates how the composite material can be used in a recessed portion of a device to create a “cosmetically appealing reveal”, so not only can we expect a nicer iPhone design in the future, but also a new antenna window that should finally put those death grip fears to rest. There are rumors that Apple is planning on redesigning the antenna for the iPhone 5, and if that were true we highly doubt it would be using this new composite material. iPhone 6, anyone?
