T-Mobile to introduce carrier billing for third party payments and goods

When it comes to buying apps and accessing third party content on our smartphones, they usually require some form of credit, whether it be by credit/debit card, or in the case of iTunes, a gift card. Given that the younger generation probably do not own credit cards, sometimes accessing such content will be impossible unless they have generous parents who don’t mind loaning their credit card to them.

It seems that T-Mobile has thought about that and will soon be enabling carrier billing for more digital goods. They will be working with BillToMobile, PayFone, Boku, OpenMarket, and Zong although more partners are expected to be added to the list in the future.

For now it seems that the purchases are limited to music, movies and games, which while sufficient, may soon be expanded to buying actual physical goods in the future. We’re not sure what sort of security measures will be put into place as we can imagine parents will not be happy to receive a thick bill filled with transactions conducted by their 15 year old child without their knowledge.
