There has been a fair bit of hype over NVidia’s upcoming Tegra-3 “Kal-El” quad-core SoC, and why wouldn’t there be? Well as it turns out if you’ve been meaning to get your hands on a Tegra-3 device soon, you may be out of luck, unless by “soon” you were referring to October, in which case you may be getting your wish.

According to NVidia the earliest we will start seeing Tegra-3 chips being used in our devices will be in October, but it will only be limited to tablets for now. Tegra-3 for smartphones is said to be only available in 2012 and we may possibly start seeing those devices at CES 2012.

As far as tablets are concerned, it seems that there have been several rumors and speculation over ASUS’s Eee Pad Transformer 2, which has been rumored for an October release. The speculated October release seems to coincide with the release of Tegra-3 for tablets which has led some to believe that the Transformer 2 will be the first tablet to sport the quad-core processor.

If that is the case, given the success of the original Transformer, we don’t see why the Transformer won’t do just as well, or even better, than its predecessor.
