The LG G-Slate has been known to be a developer friendly tablet with fastboot OEM unlock, along with the NVidia APX that allows full read/write access to the device. Well the bad news is that the Honeycomb 3.1 update is rolling out to the LG G-Slate now, and while this is generally good news due to Android fragmentation, the update has also brought along with it a locked bootloader, which means that loading up on custom ROMs will be impossible, at least for now. We’re not sure what’s with the change in policy given that other companies such as HTC and Motorola are promising to unlock bootloaders in their future devices.
We’re guessing that there are probably tons of modders and developers who may be upset by this piece of news, so if you’re one of them but still want to update to Honeycomb 3.1, it looks like you might have to wait a while for the Android developers community to come up with a way to get the bootloader unlocked.
