Department of Justice files suit to block AT&T/T-Mobile merger

The whole AT&T and T-Mobile merger situation has been long drawn out, with some big names behind the merger but at the same time a lot of opposition from the smaller players such as Sprint, who fears that they may need to be bought out should the merger go through in order to remain competitive.

Now it appears that the Department of Justice feels that the merger is not warranted and has stepped in and filed a suit that would block the merger. They claim that by absorbing T-Mobile (essentially removing them from the market) would remove a significant competitive force. We’re guessing that AT&T and T-Mobile aren’t too thrilled about this piece of news, but it appears that the ball is now back in AT&T’s court.
