Android overtakes iOS in Australia

Back here in the States, it’s no secret that Android owns the majority of the smartphone platform market share. Last we checked it was a hair over 40%, and now it seems that in Australia, Android is reigning supreme.

It used to be iOS that beat out Android in Australia, but according to Kantar ComTech WorldPanel, Android has managed edge out iOS over the past three months and now controls about 42.9% of the sales of smartphones while the iPhone only accounted for 37.2%. Either way when combined, those numbers don’t leave a lot of room for other platforms.

This was based on an interview with no less than 10,000 Australian mobile phone users, and has also been attributed to the increase in high-end Android devices, such as the HTC Desire S, Desire Z, Incredible S and who could forget, the Samsung Galaxy S II.
