Verizon says their LTE phones will not be compatible with other carriers
For those wondering, Verizon’s 4G network operates mostly in the 746-787MHz range, compared to AT&T’s 704-746MHz. What this means is that Verizon’s LTE capable phones will not be able to be used on another carrier’s network, which is also partly the reason why when Apple decided to release the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s CDMA network, they had to re-engineer the device so that it would be compatible.
Verizon does acknowledge that building devices that would work with Verizon and AT&T’s networks is possible but claims it all boils down to “business arrangements”. We’re guessing this is to make Verizon customers stay on or to make devices that are exclusive only to Verizon, but either way it might look a little manipulative, although we’d like to think of it as a good business strategy.
Now here is a handset from the folks over at ZTE which intends to provide a sense of continuity, although this time around you will not be able to pick up the Zmax 2 from T-Mobile, as ZTE has decided on AT&T to be their US partner and mobile carrier for their latest phone.
