Skype Android’s Video Chat Unofficially Enabled For Galaxy S II, Sensation And Other Devices

So Skype’s latest update for Android has caused quite a stir, bringing video chat to users which the previous version did not. Unfortunately, before you get all excited, the video chat capabilities seems to be limited to four specific handsets – the Nexus S, Desire S, Xperia Neo and the Xperia Pro.

Fortunately the Android community has pretty impatient developers and modders who couldn’t wait for further updates to enable video chat on their devices, therefore they created APKs that activated video calling on other handsets too, namely the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation, Thunderbolt and EVO 4G. If you own another Android device that’s not in the list, it’s been suggested that modding the APK slightly should do the trick, although we’re guessing this is probably not for everyone.

However apparently it does not work for all handsets as there have been problems reported when trying to use the APKs on an Xperia Arc. When the device attempted to communicate with the Xperia Neo, it was reported that the video call only worked one way. We’re guessing that eventually Skype will get around to including all other devices, but if you’re impatient just head on down to Droid Life for more information on getting the APK for your device.
