Line2 to bring phone functionality to the iPad

We’re not sure why anyone would want to place calls using their iPad, but if you ever saw the need, or perhaps would like the option to do so, then in 14 days Line2 will be bringing phone functionality to the iPad.

For those who are unfamiliar, Line2 is a VoIP company, so it’s really no surprise that they would come up with that feature for the iPad. The service is expected to launch come 28th of July and will is said to allow you to place calls, listening to voicemail and even send text messages all from a single HD interface. The good news is that it’s free for a week but after that if you wish to continue using their service it will cost you $10 a month, or $100 if you go for a year’s subscription.

It comes with free number porting and unlimited domestic calling so it does sound like it’s quite a good deal, although we’re not sure if carrying an iPad around with you in place of a regular phone will be as convenient, despite the portability of the iPad.
