Android Honeycomb 3.2 to feature a mode for non-tablet apps

As we all know, the Android Honeycomb platform has a new version out, which upgraded it from 3.1 to 3.2. When the 3.2 update was announced, one of its main features was the ability to support 7-inch tablets, support which did not exist as Google had previously said that the Honeycomb platform was targeted at tablets 10-inches and above. Tablets that featured 7-inch displays would have to use the smartphone version of Android – Gingerbread or Froyo.

Well apart from the ability to support 7-inch tablets now, the Honeycomb 3.2 update also brought with it the ability to support apps that weren’t designed for larger screens. The support in this sense, would give the user two choices – stretch to fill screen, which is currently being employed by Honeycomb, and the other is to zoom to fill screen, which pretty much behaves the same way as the iPad when displaying apps created for the iPhone. Basically what it does is that it enlarges the app twofold, rather than stretching it out and creating weird dimensions, making it unusable.

This is of course just a temporary solution, hopefully one that developers will start correcting over time as they start pushing out apps that have been specifically made for the Honeycomb platform.
