What Happened to Nuance And Siri At Apple’s WWDC?

One of the key features that was expected to arrive on iOS 5 or the next generation iPhone was a better voice recognition program that would allow text-to-speech and speech-to-text, making it easier for those times when answering a text message or a voice call is not so convenient. Especially since there were reports that Apple entered into deals with both Nuance and Siri we were expecting some kind of announcement that we would be seeing  their technology being employed into iOS 5.

That was not to be as during Apple’s WWDC yesterday there was no mention of any improvements to their current voice recognition which has led to speculation that perhaps Apple and both companies did not manage to arrive at a deal on time for WWDC, either that or the technology is still being worked on and is not available in the iOS 5 beta just yet.

Since iOS 5 is expected to be released in the fall that gives Apple a bit more time to get the technology working and integrated with the OS before release, so until then it looks like there will be no new voice recognition technology announced for iOS 5. Is anyone disappointed or are voice recognition features not that big of a deal to you?
