Tapjoy Launches $5M Fund To Port Apps Over To Android

If you’ve ever downloaded free iOS games then you may have encountered certain games that use a “credit” system to purchase upgrades in your game, like new armor, weapons, etc and when you run out of the credit you are given the choice of downloading one of the apps that is being advertised in the game and getting a certain number of credits in return for that. Some of those games are like Trade Nations or Metal Storm.

Sounds familiar? If it does then there’s a chance that the company Tapjoy is one of the brains behind those services, but now thanks to Apple’s new policy regarding that matter, Tapjoy looks to be out of business, at least within the iOS environment, as they have started a Tapjoy Android fund whereby selected developers will be funded by Tapjoy if they are willing to port their apps and services over the Android while at the same time making use of Tapjoy’s virtual currency monetization engine.

Personally I’m not too fond of the virtual currency as it encourages getting all sorts of weird apps installed on your iOS device, not to mention it falsely bumps up certain apps into the Top 25 due to high downloads because of Tapjoy’s system, not because it was actually a good app.
