Samsung Working On 2GHz Dual-Core Phones?

The Samsung Galaxy S II is pretty fast already, in fact it’s a pretty good phone overall and it’s really no surprise that it’s one of Samsung’s best selling phones to date, beating out their previous phone the Samsung Galaxy S.

There are reports that Samsung is now working on a 2GHz dual-core phone, at least according to what is supposed to be a quote from a high-ranking official from Samsung:

“We are planning to release a 2 GHz dual core CPU-equipped smartphone by next year. This product will have the data processing capacities of a regular PC”.

Will a 2GHz dual-core processor be too fast and which lucky platform will get the joy of running on a 2GHz dual-core processor? For a computer that would just be old news but for a phone that is rather breaking news, although NVidia may very well top that with their Tegra-3 quad-core processors. Either way do we really need phones so fast? Processors on computers are already reaching a plateau but are phones?
