Samsung To Create Olympic Edition Smartphone?

It looks like Samsung will be the official wireless telecommunications partner of the London 2012 Olympics and apart from that huge announcement, it looks like they will be releasing a Olympic edition smartphone too. Not too long ago at Google’s I/O there was already a I/O edition of their Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and now an Olympic edition phone? Perhaps this is Samsung’s new “thing”. David Song, managing director of Samsung UK and Ireland had this to say:

We are going to launch a smartphone that all the UK citizens can enjoy. Even if they are not in the stadiums, they will be able to see [the events] their devices.”

The reasoning behind the Olympic edition smartphone is that they wanted to create a device which was high spec’ed enough to be able to stream live videos from the various Olympic events. Collectors don’t get excited yet as Samsung is still working with local and overseas networks to ensure that the wireless infrastructure would allow a seamless streaming of video to the device, after all no one likes to see their videos continuously buffer.

Given that 2012 is only less than a year away we have to wonder if Samsung will meet this objective in time or will it be released later purely for collective reasons?
