A while back we had reported that there were rumors that Sony would be the ones providing the 8MP image sensor for the next generation iPhone and as it turns out those rumors may very well be true. According to Digitimes, it seems that Apple placed an order of about 90% of image sensors from OmniVision, the company that has been providing image sensors to Apple in the past, and the remaining 10% of the 8MP camera image sensors is reportedly going to be provided by Sony.
I guess this is probably an indication that we will not be surprised at WWDC with the announcement of an iPhone 5 as it looks like Apple is only now starting to place their orders, although what that could mean is that perhaps we will be seeing the next generation make its rumored fall schedule instead.
