Nokia Money Finally Starts Shipping After A Two Year Wait

Published

on

Late August 2009, Nokia announced “Nokia Money”, a service in which users can send or receive money either through a text message or a phone call. Well almost two years later, Nokia announces that Nokia Money is finally ready to be shipped out, and the first phone that will be getting the feature is the Nokia X1-01, one of Nokia’s first dual-SIM phones which can be found primarily in India.

No word on why the launch was delayed, or even better, why did it finally make an appearance after nearly two years? Could it be Nokia’s new CEO Stephen Elop taking charge of things and finally getting things moving, or could it be the tight regulations that caused the delay? Either way, now with Nokia Money being added to the mobile payment services system, it’ll be interesting to see how the public will react to it, and how they plan to make use of it. Will it be an alternative to NFC, or is the technology too archaic for developed countries, and will probably see more use in countries such as India and Africa instead?
