Is HP Planning NFC Devices?

NFC has started to gain some traction in today’s mobile world and Google seems set on making it a standard for wireless payment solutions by teaming up with Sprint to bring us the Google Wallet NFC payment service which is still currently in trial. There have been a couple of NFC devices out there and the Samsung Nexus S is one of those said devices that would work with Google Wallet. There have also been videos on how one can fashion their own NFC hardware with the use of the Arduino kit. Some have even speculated that Apple’s next generation iPhone will be seeing NFC technology built into the device.

Now with all the hype it really comes at no surprise to see that HP may be thinking of jumping aboard the NFC bandwagon, if the rumors are to be believed. Apparently the company is considering introducing NFC into a couple of their phones and tablets and if the rumors are to be believed, we should be seeing one such device from HP come out by year end.

“Other folks are going to build this capability into devices, so, competitively, HP needs to do that,” said Ed Finkler, an independent programmer who has created an application for devices that run Palm’s WebOS operating system.

No word from HP regarding this matter which means it’s either in development or completely untrue. Either way it looks like we’ll have to wait to find out. Stay tuned.
