iOS 5 Developer Build Hint At World iPad 3?

Published

on

It seems that developers have discovered references to “iPad 3,1” and “iPad 3,2” in the USB device files of the developer build of the iOS 5 that was issued on Monday. This references were similar in style of the iOS 4.3 beta build from before whereby references to the different versions of the iPad 2 were labelled in similar fashion – “iPad2,1” which referred to the WiFi only version, “iPad2,2” GSM version and “iPad2,3” which was the CDMA version.

This is not to say that we will be seeing those models come to light, much like the “iPhone3,2” which was skipped and instead we saw the “iPhone3,3” which turned out to be the iPhone 4 for Verizon, although Apple has reportedly begun certifying components for use in the iPad 3, which some have suggested will feature a retina-like display, much like the iPhone 4.

There have also been rumors that an iPad 3 will be making an appearance this year, although that just seems unlikely as that will upset many customers who have bought the iPad 2, either way it’s good to know that the iPad 3 is in the works and we have some kind of indication to acknowledge that, no matter how small it may be.
