HTC Desire Won’t Be Able To Receive Gingerbread Update Due To Memory Constraints

Users of the HTC Desire are in for a rather huge disappointment because it looks like their device will not be able to receive the Android Gingerbread 2.3 update due to the device facing memory constraints and will not be able to support both the Gingerbread and Sense update without compromising on the user experience. For those who aren’t fans of custom UI’s like the Sense or MOTOBLUR this is just more fuel to the fire.

“Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”

I’m sure there will be plenty of HTC Desire users who will be disappointed by this news. At the same time it will not be surprising to learn that there are some HTC Desire users who have already rooted the device and loaded up the Gingerbread 2.3 update on their phones. For those who have rooted their device, has the Gingerbread update caused your device to perform slower?
