Check it out, the Gingerbread 2.3 update for the HTC EVO 4G is out and is available as an OTA download. Just go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates -> HTC Software Updates and you should be able to see the update ready for download. Below are the changes in the update, the biggest of course would be the Gingerbread update.
