Dual-Screen Smartpad Prototype By Imerj

On first glance it looks a bit like the Nintendo DS, it could also potentially pass off as the dual-screen clamshelled tablet that Sony has recently announced, or you could even think of it as two iPhone 4’s side-by-side. In reality it’s actually a joint effort by Imerj and Frog whereby both companies have designed and produced this prototype that does not even have a codename, but just a label they call “2-in-1 smartpad”, which we’re guessing is like a mixture of a smartphone and a tablet.

The device built over Android’s Gingerbread 2.3 although reportedly this prototype is months away from production. It does look like a pretty sleek device and we like the idea how it could potentially double as a phone while folded up, and as a pretty thin (7mm when flipped open) 6-inch tablet when flipped open (separated by a bit of bezel). It is also supposedly running on Texas Instrument’s OMAP processor although no word on the exact speed and will come with 1GB of DDR3 RAM along with 32GB of internal storage, although it’s said that different models can be expected, going up to 128GB but with no microSD for expandable storage.

For a more in-depth review of the prototype just head on down to Engadget’s website along with additional photos and videos. So what do you guys think? All things considered it looks like a pretty sleek and solid looking device although performance was supposedly laggy which we will have to chalk it up to it being just a prototype for now.
