Android Users Consume The Most Data

Published

According to recent data released by Nielsen, it shows that Android users are the ones that consume the most data with iOS trailing in second place and what appears to be Windows Phone 7 on a rather sharp rise. According to the chart, in Q1 in 2011 Android users were using an average of 582MB. Compare this to Q1 in 2010 where the average user only used about 312MB and now a year later and it has shot up to almost double the amount!

We’re pretty sure that it’s also thanks to more media apps being available on our mobile devices these days, such as Netflix and HBO, not to mention YouTube and Vimeo. iOS on the other hand seems to be making a more steady and consistent climb which is odd considering that developers for media applications tend to develop for iOS first before moving on to Android which means that iOS users should be having similar access to the same apps as Android. On the Windows Phone 7 front it’s rather encouraging to see that WP7 users have nearly doubled their data usage which could point to the fact that WP7 is not totally a bust. At the rate it’s increasing and with the upcoming Mango-ready devices will we soon see WP7 take the lead or even out with Android and iOS users?
