Windows Mobile 6.5 Closed To Apps Come July 15th

With the recent announcement of Windows Phone 7’s Mango update, it looks like come July 15th there will be no more apps added to Windows Mobile Marketplace for Windows Mobile 6.5. The store is not closing down entirely and apps will still be for sale but no new apps will be added to the store after the date. A good question is will app developers continue to push updates for the apps even after the date?

According to Mobile Apps Briefing, “While apps will still be available for sale, it will not be possible to modify prices, metadata or other information, and apps can only be removed from the market by contacting the support team. While sales and download reports will also still be available, and developer payments will be made as normal.” There has been little activity in the Windows Mobile Marketplace although with the emergence of the Windows Phone 7 platform and the Mango update currently headlining the news, it will not be a surprise if the Windows Mobile Marketplace will eventually come to a standstill, with Windows Mobile Marketplace currently only offering 2,364 applications and Windows Phone Marketplace at 11,731 I guess it’s inevitable.
