Vodafone Announces Their Own Smartphone

The Vodafone Smart will be the name of Vodafone’s very own smartphone that they can call their own. The UK cellular giant’s own phone will be running on Android Froyo 2.2  and it will cost less than $130. The Vodafone Smart is preloaded with Android apps such as Gmail, Google Maps and Google Talk and will offer full access to the Android Market. It has a 2-megapixel camera, 2,8-inch touch screen, 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.

Those living in Germany and Italy will be lucky enough to be the first to receive the phones. At a relatively low price the device is  currently aimed at pre-paid customers who probably don’t want to shell out huge amounts of cash and be tied to a plan for the next 2 years, but who at the same time want to enjoy the perks of owning a smartphone. The phone will be running on a 528MHz MSM7225 Qualcomm processor and comes with 130MB of memory and an SD card slot that will support up to 32GB.

So now that Vodafone has launched their own brand of phone, does that mean in the future other carriers will be following suit, and will Vodafone eventually launch a premium batch of smartphones that may attempt to rival those by Samsung, LG and Motorola?
