Tablets Are Hurting PC Sales

Published

on

Is it really so surprising that sales of tablets have directly affected the sales of PCs? According to HP revenue from consumer notebook and desktop sales dropped 23 percent in the last quarter while Dell reported yesterday its sales of computers to consumers dipped 7 percent, and Acer’s shipments dropped 16 percent. At the same time tablets such as the iPad 2 are selling like hotcakes till the point where Apple is having difficulty keeping it in stock. When’s the last time you’ve heard a desktop or laptop going out of stock because it was in such high demand?

Like we said earlier, it’s really not surprising. Tablets are now featuring dual-core processors so that takes care of the speed, unless you’re compiling code or rendering 3D, the speed of today’s tablets are more than enough to run video games, stream movies or television shows in HD, check e-mails, calculate your finances, check your stocks, online banking and etc.

Not to mention being able to do all of those activities in such a slim and convenient package. If you were to bring your laptop out to Starbucks chances are you’d have to pack your charger cable with it, and maybe a mouse, while if you brought your iPad you’d only need to tuck it under your arm in one of the many cases that you could buy for it and not forgetting the 10 hour battery life, much longer than a laptops. Minus away the hardcore gamers and working professionals who require a powerful PC, the rest of us seem to be doing just fine with the tablet.
