Prototype Promises Up To Seven Layers Of Touch

It looks like KDDI has come up with a prototype touch screen with apparently seven layers of touch which promises to render sensation through multiple layers. So imagine pressing a camera shutter button on a touch screen and getting the same feeling as you would from a physical camera, or maybe when flipping through an e-book and getting the same feeling of flipping through paper.

During Wireless Japan they managed only to show off two layers but they promised that it goes as far as seven. Right now haptic touch screen are basically just vibrations, which can be rather annoying and tacky. I doubt we will be seeing any of this technology any time soon but it is a rather interesting concept and one that promises to add a whole new level of experience for touch screen users.
