One Third of Facebook Posts Come From Mobile Devices

Hands up if you’re guilty of using your mobile devices, regardless iOS, Android, Blackberry or Windows Phone 7, to check your Facebook while on the move? If you raised your hand then congratulations you are part of the 33% of the people who post updates and new content on their mobile phones.

In a research done by Dan Zarrella he took about 70,000 Facebook public posts and the data he used included status updates, videos, links and photos and it was shown that 32.69% of those posts were created from mobile devices.

The breakdown of who used which device can be seen in the pie chart above. As we can see we have the major players – iOS, Android and Blackberry followed by other mobile apps as in non-official Facebook apps and there’s even quite a sizable chunk logging on to Facebook from their mobile website – m.facebook.com, perhaps from users who do not have phones that support the Facebook app or older phones.

This is quite interesting as it goes to show how word of mouth can be spread so easily these days with the use of our mobile devices. Movie or restaurant reviews can be posted and updated on our Facebook in a matter of seconds but yet have a huge impact all at once.

With great power, comes great responsibility.
