Nokia Losing Home Advantage
While Samsung seems to have the home advantage back in Korea the same can not be said for Nokia who has just slipped off the number one position no thanks to Apple and Samsung. In Western Europe which is Nokia’s most important market it seems that Apple has overtaken it in terms of being the regions top smartphone maker while Samsung is the region’s biggest mobile phone maker overall, a position once held by Nokia.
While Nokia is one of the most recognized and appreciated brands, it seems that Samsung’s ability to stay ahead of the trend allowed the Korean phone maker to move faster than Nokia has allowed them to overtake Nokia.
However all of this is not set in stone as Nokia has already announced that they will be dropping the Symbian operating system in favor of the Windows Phone 7 operating system. Perhaps Nokia’s announcement on the 17th of May will signify a change and a possibility of a comeback.
